I fell in love with Mirror Dots the first time I saw them! Could that be years ago now? I’m happy to say Michael Miller is still selling them. I bought these last year and waited for the perfect project to use them.
I thought the fabric might be slippery to work with but I was so wrong. I pre-washed all the fabrics together with a color catcher and the catcher came out perfectly white after the wash. The fabric is a little softer after washing and is a dream to sew! It doesn’t slip at all. In fact it is such a nice weight I found that I didn’t need to use pins at all ~ even when sewing curves. I’ll share my quilt with you another time.
I still have Mirror Dots in pink, lavender, aloe + lagoon ~ they’re not going to be part of my stash for long!
I really thought I would have this finished yesterday ~ but I got sick instead!
It’s my Fireworks quilt made with blocks from members of the Jersey Shore Modern Quilt Guild. I was queen bee last July ~ yikes! I’m glad I’ll have this done in time for this 4th of July!
I asked for blocks in different sizes so I added filler strips of black fabric with swirls of dark gray so that each block was 11 1/2″ square. I added smaller blocks, 6 1/2″ h x 11 1/2″w, for variety. I almost ran out of the black/swirl fabric which has never happend to me before! Here’s all that I had left of it:
On the right is a closeup of the quilting. I did it using a wavy stitch which is already programmed on my Baby Lock. I set it to the largest width and the longest length. It is the quickest quilting I’ve ever done ~ I’m sure I’ll be using this a lot more in the future!
The quilt is backed with a 100% cotton fabric with an all-over pattern and will be bound with Kona Solid Black. It is 44″ x 56″.
03.21.14 I’m also linking up with Lindsey at Forth Worth Fabric Studio for Fabric Frenzy Friday. Be sure to check out Lindsey’s Crazy Acres Quilt Along which is just starting ~ the finished quilt she designed is beautiful!
